![]() It can be used on a single 30A 120V outlet, but NOT above 12A since it will be drawing 24A from the outlet when operating at 12A output. Worth noting: You can plug your car directly into the 120 Volt outlet using the charge cable (technically called the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or EVSE) that often comes with the vehicle. Level 1 uses the same outlet you use for your cell phone and toaster. If you do this wrong it goes without saying the the result will be bad, but it does work and the transformer is only 18lb. This is the transformer I used AN-154115 1500VA 115V and 230V Isolation Transformer Option to step Up/down | eBay, I wired it so that only half the energy goes through the transformer as you use the isolated output to generate the second 'leg' making sure to keep ground/neutral in the "center". It's best used at 12A 240V, but I have run it for 8 hours at 16A 240V without it overheating. The normal charging rate when using 120 volts draws 8 amps from the outlet. Thus you can charge an EUV slowly using a standard 120 volt 5-15 outlet. You plug one of these wall cords into a box that has a longer cord that goes to the car. note you will still need to buy a larger evse to use the 32 amps your car is capable of. There are two short wall cords, one for a 120 volt 5-15 outlet and the other for a 240 volt 14-50 outlet. but getting a 40amp 240v line ran to where you need it would probably be cheaper, as there are usually regional and federal incentives to apply to the cost. I don't know what your power service is like in your home. you'd need the cable supplying the 120volts to be 3 guage or bigger wire(this would be another large cost) 220 volts is reserved for those devices (. so you'd probably have to pay about $2k for a transformer of that size used(probably would weigh about 200lbs) and consume 200watts or so even when the car wasn't plugged in. So, the most you can get out of the lowly 15 amp circuit anywhere in the house is around 1800 watts (120v 15A). ![]() The amps drawn at 240 will be double on the 120 side(plus losses) so if you hooked up an evse that told the vehicle it could consume 32 amps it would start drawing 64amps from the 120 side of the transformer(plus losses). ![]() There is a separate circuit with only one 120v receptacle on the back wall. When I probe the outlets I GET 240 VOLTS. The circuit over the counter over existing cabinets along one wall has two 120 v receptacles in separate boxes. you can convert 120v to 240v with a transformer. There is a circuit for a Room AC with the proper outlet that reads 240 volts as it should. ![]()
